Medical oncology

Fighting cancer requires a team effort, and the patient is the captain of his or her own team. All care team members work together with the common goal of providing quality, compassionate care. Ongoing communication with the patient's primary care physician, radiation oncologist and/or surgical oncologist is maintained to ensure continuity of care.

Individualized chemotherapy treatments are administered to patients in the medical oncology and hematology clinic by specially trained RNs under the direction of Mercy's medical oncologists. Patients receive their treatments within a comfortable state-of-the-art chemotherapy station that includes reclining treatment chairs, TVs with headphones to minimize noise, and a bird's-eye view of the Rock River. Supportive treatments for patients are also available in the treatment room, including other intravenous infusions, lab draws and injections.

Our medical oncology/hematology patients also have the option to participate in clinical trials. Mercy’s medical oncology/hematology clinic is affiliated with the Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group of the National Cancer Institute, as well as the Wisconsin Oncology Group. Chemotherapy treatments for breast cancer, lung cancer and colorectal cancer are just some of the clinical trials available through these affiliations.

The medical oncology clinic of Mercy Regional Cancer Center is located in the Mercy Michael Berry Clinic, on the main Mercy Hospital and Trauma Center campus. Services are also offered at Mercy Walworth Hospital and Medical Center in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin.
